Jeni Chen

Feb 5th
Virtual Program

Local artist, picture book author and illustrator Jeni Chen will lead art activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year. In this workshop, you will hear the legend of the Great Race and make a New Year’s card featuring the Tiger, or your own zodiac animal. You will play with colours, lines and shapes to represent the unique characteristics of your Chinese zodiac sign.

Enjoy this virtual arts workshop and create a New Year’s card from the comforts of your own home to welcome a prosperous new year!

About the Artist

Jeni Chen is a visual artist, picture book author and illustrator. She was born in Taiwan and immigrated to Canada with her family when she was a teenager. Jeni has always loved to draw but stopped when she grew up. It wasn’t until Jeni became a mom that she was inspired to draw again. Jeni returned to school and obtained a fine art certificate from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Finding her creative voice has led her to create public art installations and illustrate for children. Her debut picture book Emet’s Box is being published by the Little Press, to be released in spring 2022. And for fun, Jeni draws a webcomic series about family life with her elementary-school-age son. You can find out more on her website JeniChen.com.
