Fortune Sticks and Divination

In Taiwan, it is common to go to the temple and ask the gods for advice when facing a difficult or life-changing decision. The tossing of divination blocks, in Taiwanese called “bwa-bwei,” can help answer questions depending on whether they land face up, face down, or both. Taiwanese people also draw fortune sticks, where the number you draw corresponds to paper fortunes slips with the answers you seek.
