Warrior Horse:
Teachings of Strength,
Balance, and Belonging
This Indigenous based workshop invites participants into storytelling, reflection, and creativity through a Warrior Horse colouring sheet and teachings about local animals that carry similar spirit and responsibilities as the Horse. Through shared stories, participants explore connections to strength, partnership, protection, and balance—values reflected both in the Year of the Horse and in the animals of the local lands and waters. The workshop centres cultural safety, respect, and learning through art, offering space to listen, create, and reconnect with ancestral knowledge and place-based teachings.
Christine Mackenzie
Christine Mackenzie is from the Kwakiutl Nation. She is a First Nation Artist and Facilitator, born in Kelowna, BC, the unceded territory of the Syilx/Okanagan people. Her mother was born in Bella Coola, BC of the Eagle clan. Her mother was a part of the Sixties Scoop and because of that, Christine had a hard time finding her culture and identity.
She finds inspiration in the natural world and in the eyes of people willing to learn and share cultural ideas. Christine enjoys working with traditional/contemporary design and with multiple mediums. She’s been doing art all her life; she has been a professional Artist and Facilitator since 2009 and was mentored by Anastasia Hendry, Haida Nation. Christine now helps others in their journey to self-identifying and educating others about Indigenous culture, artwork and protocols.
Christine has worked with many school districts, youth/family organizations and non for profits in Chilliwack, Surrey, Langley, Vancouver (North, West and Downtown), Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Richmond, New Westminster, Boston Bar, The Yukon, Dease Lake, Telaghaph Creek and Atlin. She has been a part of five art shows and have illustrated/co-written three books. She has created many custom pieces, including Transit Police cars, orange patch, murals, challenge coin and a part of the strategic plan moving forward with Truth and Reconciliation. Christine does consultation with individuals/organizations to support plans of Truth and Reconciliation.
